FFBC awards annual scholarships to outstanding Iowa high seniors who fight homophobia and educate their schools and/or communities about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ) issues. Academic excellence, extracurricular activities and community involvement also factor into the awards.
The scholarships are $3,000 each. The number of awards varies each year based on the number and quality of applicants and the funds available.
Applicants must be Iowa residents and plan to pursue post-secondary education. There is no restriction on the type or location of the institution where post-secondary education is obtained. Scholarships are awarded without regard to sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, transgender status, race, religion, marital status or employment status of the prospective recipient.
The FFBC Scholarship Selection Committee will notify recipients by May 1. Scholarships will be awarded at the breakfast meeting on the first Friday of June. Students are expected to attend the June meeting in order to receive their scholarships. Recipients are encouraged to bring their parents or other members of their support system to the meeting.
If you feel you are qualified for the scholarship, we encourage you to apply. If you know others who may be eligible, please bring this opportunity to their attention.
Scholarship funds are raised through various fundraisers and donations received year-round. To contribute, please visit our Scholarship Donors page.
Other scholarship opportunities may be found at the website for the Point Foundation, The National LGBTQ Scholarship Fund, the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.
